Singer, songwriter, producer and musician Brian McKnight will perform Thursday, Feb. 11, with his full band, presented by UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.

McKnight has earned a spot in contemporary music history, with 15 albums to date, several going platinum two or even three times. He has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. McKnight plays an astonishing nine instruments: piano, guitar, bass, drums, percussions, trombone, tuba, flugelhorn and trumpet. His new album, “better,” is set to drop in February. “better” is inspired by McKnight’s desire to take it back to the basics, and create music organically with all real instruments. The album features collaborations with Hawaiian vocalist Kimié Miner and Cash Money Records rapper Glasses Moses. Listeners will embark on a journey echoed in the sounds and lyrics of his most heart-felt album to date.
According to his bio, McKnight has established himself with an enviable record of chart consistency. He has toured successfully for more than a decade and collaborated with performers across every genre, including Quincy Jones, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Diddy, Christina Aguilera, Rascal Flatts, Nelly, Vanessa Williams, Willie Nelson and Kenny G.
Along with several Grammy nominations, McKnight has received American Music, Soul Train, NAACP Image and Blockbuster awards, and has been named Billboard Songwriter of The Year. McKnight has also used his vast industry knowledge as a red carpet host for “Extra!” and in 2007 McKnight stepped onto Broadway with a successful run as Billy Flynn in “Chicago.”
