Student organization Dance Marathon will present an all-night dance celebration Friday-Saturday April 19-20, 2013, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Campus Recreation Center.
Dance Marathon combines music, food, games and theme hours with dancing to raise money for patients being treated at Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Dance Marathon across the nation is the largest student-run philanthropic organization that raises money and awareness for local Children’s Hospitals and the Children’s Miracle Network.
Dance Marathon at UAB is a year-long fundraising effort that will culminate with the all-night celebration. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and end at 10 a.m. Saturday. The event will feature a kids fun zone, free food, live entertainment and dancing. Dance Marathon at UAB Miracle Network families will tell stories throughout the evening, night and wee morning hours.
Individuals and teams can register to participate in Dance Marathon. The cost to register is $10; each dancer who participates is asked to try and raise up to $100. UAB students, faculty and staff and members of the community are all invited to participate. Dancers will receive donations for volunteering to stay on their feet for the duration of the event — standing on your feet signifies standing for those children who cannot, according to the group. Donations can be accepted via the Dance Marathon at UAB DonorDrive page. Sponsorship is welcome; three levels of sponsorship are available ranging from $150 to $500 or more. Refreshment sponsors are also needed to provide snacks and drinks to the dancers. For details or to register, contact Kira Siegel at 205-934-8073.
