Violinist Noé Inui and pianist Vassilis Varvaresos will perform as a duo for the ArtPlay Parlor Music Series, presented by UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center (ASC).

The pair will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at ArtPlay, 1006 19th St. South. This performance is part of the Patty McDonald ArtPlay Parlor Music Series featuring Young Concert Artists (YCA).
The ASC continues its popular ArtPlay Parlor Music Series by showcasing the innovative pairing of two winners of the YCA International Auditions: Inui and Varvaresos. The duo’s program for the evening is set to include Mozart’s Sonata in B-flat Major, Strauss’ Sonata in E-flat Major, Schubert’s Rondo in B-minor and Bartok’s Rhapsody for Violin and Piano No. 2. As an emerging international soloist and chamber musician, violinist Inui combines strength, energy and virtuosity with sensitivity in his playing. Born in 1985, he began violin lessons at age 4. Inui won the 2008 European YCA Auditions in Leipzig, Germany, and the 2008-09 YCA International Auditions in New York. In 2010, YCA’s Summis Auspiciis Prize sponsored his New York debut at Merkin Concert Hall, and the Alexander Kasza-Kasser Prize of YCA sponsored his Washington, D.C., debut at the Kennedy Center.

Varvaresos, born in 1983, was the youngest pianist to win the YCA International Auditions, at age 14. Through YCA, he gave acclaimed debut concerts in New York and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He was trained at The Juilliard School in New York City and is currently working with Michael Dalberto at the Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur de Paris. Highlights of Varvaresos’ career include his concerto debut in 2007 at New York’s Lincoln Center performing Lowell Liebermann’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Juilliard Orchestra under the baton of Andreas Delfs, and a concert in Vienna’s legendary Musikverein. In 2010, he won First Prize in the Maria Chairogiorgou-Sigara International Piano Competition in Athens.
Both artists will perform together for hundreds of area schoolchildren for an ArtPlay Meet the Artist School Show at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, at the ASC.
