Early Arts for Toddlers, for children ages 18 months through 3 years plus a parent, will introduce young children to the arts through imaginative play and arts-related activities that incorporate movement, music and visual art. The Saturday class will run March 30-May 4, 2013, 10-10:45 a.m., taught by Teaching Artist Leila Dolatabadi. The cost is $125.
GardenPlay will give adults and teens ages 14 and older a chance to design and plant a garden that fits a yard, patio or balcony. Students will learn how a garden can become an expression of self, a creative outlet, a tranquil respite, a haven for wildlife or a potager for cooking. The class, taught by Teaching Artist Michelle Reynolds, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 10-June 12. The cost is $200.
ArtPlay will offer three one-day workshops, including one for The Fine Art of VJ’ing and Mosaic Masterpieces workshops for children and adults. The Fine Art of VJ’ing is for ages 12-18. Students will learn the art of creation/manipulation of imagery through real-time editing using video-jockeying software in synchronization to music. The students will then use their new skills to VJ at the ASC’s digital art and music festival “Lux Somnia: Light Dreams” May 2-3. The workshop will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Instructors John and Katie Gaiser will lead the workshop. The cost is $25.
Participants in the Mosaic Masterpieces workshops will learn the beautiful art of mosaic while creating their own garden stepping stones. The first workshop, for children ages 7-12, will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13. The second workshop, for adults and teens ages 13 and up, will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20. Teaching artists Jessica Simpson and Alley Bulka will lead both workshops. The cost is $125 per workshop.
ArtPlay has added more summer camps, including visual art camps and a dance workshop. Two sessions of Discovering the Visual Arts will be offered: June 24-28 and July 22-26. For ages 7-12, this camp will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday. This award-winning visual arts camp offers classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts and more. The camps culminate with the students’ very own art show. The cost is $220 per session.
