Guest artist Badgerow to perform free piano, harpsichord recital

Elizabethtown College’s Badgerow will perform on the music department’s newly restored harpsichord for his guest artist recital Feb. 2.

BadgerowGuest artist Justin Badgerow, D.M.A., will perform a free recital presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Music at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013.

Pianist Badgerow’s program will include Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” works by Grainger and Chopin, as well as pieces by Couperin, which Badgerow will perform on the UAB music department’s newly restored harpsichord. The Zuckermann Italian harpsichord was built 30 years ago by former Birmingham resident Ferdinand Pointer.

Badgerow teaches piano and music theory at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Penn., and is a collaborative pianist. Badgerow has worked with artists including Patrick Mason, James Bunte and Eddie Daniels. His research and performance interests include Latin American music, musical theater and “Indianist” music of America. The Indianist movement in American classical music began more than a century ago, blending Native American music with Western classical music principles.
