Students will learn how to create book art, sew by hand, perfect their comic timing, create a smartphone app and more when ArtPlay at UAB presents a new session of arts-education classes that kick off in January 2012.
Since opening nearly a year ago, ArtPlay — the arts-education center for UAB’s Alys Stephens Center — has expanded its offerings and its impressive roster of teaching artists, including collaborations with the UAB Department of Music, Red Mountain Theatre Company, Alabama Symphony Orchestra and others.
ArtPlay offerings span the spectrum of ages. New classes this session include modern, hip hop and Indian dance, a fashion “upcycling” workshop that shows how to improve second-hand clothing items, music creation, the art of music production and more. Returning favorites include ballet, musical theater, acting, drawing and painting, creative movement for young children, storytelling, acting for adults and private instruction in music, voice and dance.
A full listing of ArtPlay classes is online at www.alysstephens.org/connect/ or call ArtPlay at 205-975-4769. Registration is open now. The $25 registration fee is waived for UAB students, staff and faculty who register by phone.
