Discover how environmental policy affects Birmingham Nov. 30

The public event will feature discussions by representatives from local businesses and organizations about the environmental challenges in Birmingham and will offer ways to increase community involvement.

Stream LocallensFBJoin the University of Alabama at Birmingham Lister Hill Center for Health Policy for the final event of the series on public health and climate change, Local Lens: How Environmental Policy is Impacting Birmingham, at noon Nov. 30 in at the School of Public Health Room 407.

Participants will hear from an expert panel about the challenges and opportunities in enacting and enforcing environmental policy and how the Birmingham community can get involved. This panel discussion will feature representatives from the business, local government and nonprofit sectors to promote productive and actionable discussions of local environmental policy. The panel includes these local presenters:

  • James Little, owner of Filter Coffee Parlor and a member of the Alabama Environmental Council, recently led a coalition of Birmingham businesses to modernize composting regulations.
  • Thomas Yuill, senior planner for the City of Birmingham, will provide key insight into both the governmental processes and implications of policy change. 
  • Nelson Brooke with the Black Warrior Riverkeepers has been active in the nonprofit sector for years and leads policy initiatives related to water safety and pollution. 

A sustainable lunch, provided by Blueroot Co, a Gold Sustainable Partner of the Alabama Environmental Council, will be served.
