Kick off holiday celebrations with seasonal sounds from local choirs at ““We are grateful to be returning to an in-person event after a year of having to celebrate virtually,” said Brian Kittredge, DMA, director of Choral Activities at UAB and associate professor of music. “Each participating choir is thrilled to be singing together once again to an appreciative audience.”
Featuring UAB choral ensembles and high school choirs from the Greater Birmingham area, “Christmas at the Alys” is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, Jemison Concert Hall. Tickets are $8 general admission and free for UAB students and senior citizens. Call 205-975-2787 for tickets.
Started in 2001, the festive event has welcomed thousands of young choral singers from schools throughout the Birmingham community to perform together with UAB. The program includes the singing of traditional holiday carols, in which the audience is encouraged to participate.
Safety is UAB’s priority. The pandemic is a fluid situation that UAB is monitoring, in consultation with infectious disease and public health experts; performances will be subject to change based on the latest COVID-19 safety guidelines. Event staff and attendees are required to wear masks indoors on campus regardless of vaccination status, as well as maintain proper distancing while on UAB’s campus, including at events.
