University of Alabama at Birmingham won at the 62nd annual American Advertising Awards.
Works by students and staff from thePresented by the American Advertising Federation of Birmingham, the ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries nationally every year in local AAF Club competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
UAB’s Office of University Relations won a Silver ADDY for Magazine Design for the fall 2019/winter 2020 issue of UAB Magazine, which celebrates the university’s 50th anniversary.
Nine students in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History, led by Doug Barrett, MFA, associate professor of graphic design, won student design awards, including:
- Sara Lee of Birmingham, Gold ADDY and Best in Show for “Flowers to-go,” Sales & Marketing category, Packaging, and Silver ADDY for “High Speed Rail Exploration,” Cross-Platform, Integrated Campaigns category, Integrated Brand Identity.
- Caroline Whitaker of Birmingham, Gold ADDY for “So Cute! So Kawaii!,” Sales & Marketing category, Packaging.
- Brittany Walker of Hoover, Gold ADDY for “The Salty Shore,” Sales & Marketing category, Sales Promotion, and Silver ADDY for “Pine,” Online/Interactive category, App.
- Jessica Ray of Gardendale, two Gold ADDYs for “See Me,” Out of Home & Ambient Media category, Poster, and Elements Of Advertising, Still Photography.
- Maddie McCann of Birmingham, Silver ADDY for “Yoshida,” Sales & Marketing category, Collateral Material.
- Sara Wood of Hoover, Silver ADDY for “Flourish,” Out of Home & Ambient Media category, Outdoor and Transit Advertising.
- Ella Waddell of Madison, Silver ADDY for “Dia De los Muertos Poster,” (2000), Out Of Home & Ambient Media category.
- Mikee McGee of Birmingham, intern with City Paper Company, Silver ADDY for “Merry Microsoft & Happy HolliDells,” Elements of Advertising category, Illustration.
