Basic, Translational and Preclinical Research
UAB Urology is dedicated to advancing the knowledge of urologic diseases through a comprehensive approach that includes basic science, translational, and preclinical research efforts. The department has several faculty-led labs that investigate a broad spectrum of urologic conditions such as kidney stones, benign prostatic enlargement, and various urologic cancers, including prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer.
Clinical Research
Medical and scientific progress arises from creative ideas and carefully planned research. For new treatments to gain widespread use, they must first prove their safety and effectiveness in a significant number of patients and be published in reputable, peer-reviewed journals. The researchers in the UAB Department of Urology are actively involved in a variety of clinical trials that address different urologic conditions, aiming to quickly translate research discoveries into clinical practices that enhance patient outcomes.
