The Division of Pediatric Surgery’s Elizabeth Beierle, M.D., has been named vice chair for faculty development for the Department of Surgery. Beierle will take over as chair of the appointment, tenure and promotion process, as well as help the Division of Surgical Oncology’s Marshall M. Urist, M.D., lead the department’s faculty mentorship program.

Dr. Elizabeth Beierle“Liz Beierle has served on the Department of Surgery APT committee and has provided important guidance to faculty members as they have gone through the promotion process,” UAB Department of Surgery Chair Herbert Chen, M.D., said. "She has been a great mentor to junior faculty through our faculty mentorship program, and we are excited for her to take on a leadership role where she can use those skills to benefit all our faculty members.”

The faculty mentorship program seeks to foster valuable professional relationships between junior and senior faculty members and establish goals for the future, such as helping assistant professors find research collaborators, intramural funding opportunities and training programs.
