Congratulations to Gautam Bhatia, M.D., who will graduate from our Thoracic Surgery Residency Program on June 30 and begin his career as an attending physician in the Greenville Health System’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 1.

Dr. Gautam BhatiaBhatia will serve as an adult cardiac surgeon among a group of four other adult cardiac surgeons, as well as three general thoracic surgeons, and will focus on coronary artery bypass grafting, open valvular surgery, aortic surgery, Greenville’s growing TAVR program, outcomes research and his additional teaching responsibilities.

Bhatia said he anticipates a smooth move from UAB to Greenville.

“I will have graduated from one of the busiest surgical fellowships in the country with experience in a wide variety of adult cardiac operations and complex surgical cases that will help my transition into practice be very easy,” he said. “I will have graduated with close to 900 total operations in two years.”
