According to the latest U.S. News & World Report international ranking, the UAB Department of Surgery is among the top 15 percent of surgery departments worldwide and is ranked 35th out of 250 departments evaluated.

U.S. News & World Report is powered by Clarivate and calculates overall rankings using bibliometric indicators such as publications, citations, and highly cited papers.

Additionally, compared to other global universities in all fields of knowledge, UAB is among the top 6 percent of institutions worldwide and is ranked 164 out of 2,459 schools. In the past three years, UAB has steadily increased its ranking from the top 10 to the top 6 percent. Both the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the UAB Department of Surgery have been recognized as the best in Alabama.
