The UAB Department of Surgery is honored to welcome two new faculty members –Udai Sibia, M.D., and Bhuwan Giri, MBBS.
About Dr. Udai Sibia
Udai Sibia, M.D., joined the UAB Department of Surgery as a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology in November 2024.
Sibia obtained his medical degree from Avalon University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland. After residency, Dr. Sibia completed a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Providence Saint John’s Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California. In addition to his medical training, he also earned his MBA from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University.
About Dr. Bhuwan Giri
Bhuwan Giri, MBBS, joined the UAB Department of Surgery as an assistant professor in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery in January 2025.
Giri earned his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He was then a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Minnesota for one year, and at the University of Miami for two years. After his post-doctoral research, he completed his general surgery residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Following residency, Dr. Giri completed a colorectal surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
