UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery Emeritus Professor William L. Holman, M.D., has been appointed as a feature editor for the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS), the official publication of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.

Holman worked at the UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery until his retirement from clinical practice in 2023. His primary clinical interests include cardiac surgery and heart failure surgery.

During his time at UAB, Holman conducted research on cardiac arrhythmias, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and outcome analysis for patients with heart assist devices. His research was funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Holman played a key role in several Food and Drug Administration Investigational new device trials for ventricular assist devices and is currently reviewing grant applications for the American Heart Association.

Prior to being invited to serve as feature editor, Holman has actively participated on the editorial board of JTCVS since 2022, alongside Benjamin Wei, M.D., and James Kirklin, M.D.
