UAB Division of Pediatric Surgery Professor Elizabeth Beierle, M.D., has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation to study MYCN driving mechanisms in neuroblastoma.

Recognized for her research on neuroblastoma and other solid tumors in pediatric patients, Beierle is focused on developing advanced treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes. Over the past decade, she has concentrated on the molecular mechanisms underlying pediatric cancers, particularly neuroblastoma, which is a prevalent and challenging type of childhood cancer.

Her research investigates the pathways involved in tumor development and progression to identify new therapeutic targets. Beierle has published her findings in numerous scientific journals, emphasizing the importance of enhancing treatment efficacy while minimizing toxicity for young patients.

The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation, named after National Football League coach Vince Lombardi, who died of colon cancer, supports projects that could significantly advance cancer treatment and patient care. Since the Foundation began in 1971, it has raised over $21 million to prevent, battle, and cure cancer.
