UAB Department of Surgery congratulates the following faculty members who were selected for American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress leadership positions:
Tania Arora, M.D.
UAB Division of Surgical Oncology Professor and Vice Chair of Access and Engagement Tania Arora, M.D., has been selected as the Chair of the ACS Committee to Advance Surgical Excellence and Inclusion. The committee provides the tools and resources necessary to promote awareness and understanding, social justice, and inclusivity for all surgeons.
Arora's clinical practice has been focused on improving the multidisciplinary care and clinical outcomes of complex cancer patients. She has also served in a number of roles related to enhancing medical education quality.
Karin Hardiman, M.D., Ph.D.
UAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery Professor Karin Hardiman, M.D., Ph.D., has been selected for the ACS Board of Governors as one of the two representatives for the state of Alabama. The governors serve as liaisons between the Board of Regents and the ACS fellows. They present the perspectives and opinions of their surgical peers while creating resources to assist Fellows.
During her time at UAB, Hardiman has led several research programs targeting undergraduate and graduate students, as well as general surgery residents. She performs basic and translational science research and has successfully obtained funding from governmental institutions and surgical societies.
Kristy Broman, M.D., MPH
UAB Division of Surgical Oncology Assistant Professor Kristy Broman, M.D., MPH, was selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Surgical Outcomes Club during its annual meeting at ACS.
Broman currently serves on the Implementation Committee for the ACS Cancer Research Program and as Chair of the UAB Cancer Committee in the ACS Commission on Cancer. She is a member of the UAB Institute for Cancer Outcomes and Survivorship.
