UAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery Strange Family Endowed Professor in Surgical Sciences Research Karin Hardiman, M.D., Ph.D., has been selected for membership into the Surgical Biology Club II.
Prospective members must be nominated based on their contributions to academic surgery, including publications, grants, and leadership roles. The Board of Directors reviews nominations to maintain the club's commitment to excellence. New members are then invited to share their findings at the annual meeting, promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange among colleagues.
Hardiman specializes in basic and translational research to improve the outcomes of patients with colon and rectal cancers. In her National Institutes of Health-funded laboratory, she studies treatment resistance and metastasis in colorectal cancer.
In addition to her involvement in basic and translational research, Hardiman co-directs the Future Surgeons and Scientists Investigating Oncology (FUSSION) program for undergraduate students and serves as the Associate Director of the Physician Scientist Development Office (PSDO). She is also the Assistant Program Director for Resident Research, General Surgery Residency Program.
“The Surgical Biology Club II provides an excellent opportunity to build connections and drive research initiatives in both basic and translational science. I am looking forward to engaging with attendees at the upcoming scientific meetings and bringing back innovative initiatives to implement in my own research,” says Hardiman.
