The UAB chapter of the Trauma Survivors Network (TSN) has begun offering support groups for survivors of traumatic injuries.
The support groups are facilitated by Allie Hulcher, UAB’s TSN coordinator and communications specialist for the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (pictured left), and Toria Pettway, LMSW, the psychiatric social worker for Trauma and Burn Services (pictured right).
So far, two support groups have been held with a total of seven individual trauma survivors participating. The participants represented a wide range of injury types and injury date - some people were injured years or even decades ago, some just in the past year.
The support groups are held virtually via Zoom and are open to all survivors of traumatic injury, no matter what their injury was, when their injury was, or where they currently live.
Support groups provide a confidential, welcoming space for trauma survivors to gain support and hope from those with similar experiences. Survivors also have the opportunity to help others by sharing valuable insights from their own recovery journeys.
The schedule for these virtual support groups is:
- 2nd Tuesdays of the month from noon to 1:00 p.m.
- 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
