Sanjana Balachandra, M.D., a post-doctoral researcher focusing on endocrine surgery, and Maggie Jones-Carr, M.D., a post-doctoral researcher focusing on surgical transplantation, have been chosen as recipients of the 2024 Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) Fall Courses Travel Award.
The AAS Travel Award includes registration to attend the AAS Fall Courses, which will take place on October 18, 2024, in San Francisco, California. In addition to the complimentary registration, both recipients will also receive a $1,000 stipend to help cover the costs and one year of AAS membership.
Balachandra began her general surgery residency at SUNY Downstate Health joined UAB to research thyroid and parathyroid diseases and their clinical outcomes.
Jones-Carr started her residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and came to UAB to conduct research in relation to abdominal transplant surgery, the ethics of transplantation, organ allocation, health policy, and surgical education.
