UAB Division of Pediatric Surgery Professor Robert Russell, M.D., MPH, has been accepted for membership into the Southern Surgical Association (SSA).
To be selected for membership into the organization, candidates must meet the following criteria:

- Be in good standing with one’s respective state association.
- Have a minimum of ten years of work history, with at least three in active practice in the field of surgery.
This professional accomplishment for Russell also marks a special milestone personally, as well -- Russell’s father, Dr H. Earle Russell, Jr., was also a member of the organization.
“It is truly an honor to be a member of the Southern Surgical Association and to continue the legacy started by my father,” says Russell. “I have long admired the association and am humbled to now be recognized as part of this exemplary group of surgeon-scientists. I look forward to contributing to the body of research and innovation that is shared in the annual meetings and learning from my colleagues, as well.”
Director of the Pediatric Trauma Division and Surgeon Champion for Pediatrics Surgery Quality at Children’s of Alabama, Russell is a leader in the continued advancement of pediatric trauma surgery. Russell is also a current member of the Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine Faculty Council.
