UAB's Pancreatobiliary Disease Center (PDC) has a season filled with family-friendly community events for patients, their loved ones, and friends of the clinic.
PanCAN Purple Stride Walk
Lace up your tennis shoes and get ready for the annual Pancreatic Cancer Purple Stride Walk at Railroad Park on Saturday, April 27. The event village will open at noon, with the opening ceremony kicking off the event at 1 p.m.
Purple Stride serves as a day to recognize survivors, families, caregivers, and researchers nationwide. With over 60 events happening concurrently across the U.S., each step and each dollar raised provides an opportunity to provide resources for those impacted and additional measures to further critical medical treatment and research.
"We look forward to this event every year," says patient services coordinator Nicolet Thompson. "PanCAN provides us an outlet to connect with our patients and their caregivers outside of the clinical setting and celebrate individuals well on their way to remission and recovery. Cheering on and supporting these patients every day is our favorite part of the job."

Hops & Hope Fair
The PDC will also host its inaugural Hops & Hope Fair fundraiser at Cahaba Brewing Company on Sunday, May 19, from 2 - 6 p.m., for an afternoon of family-friendly fun.
"So many of the conversations surrounding pancreatic disease are very emotionally charged and serious. We want this to be a refreshing change of scenery for patients and supporters of the PDC to gather in an uplifting environment and enjoy a relaxing afternoon while also helping make crucial research possible," says clinical care coordinator Jillian Guthrie Hadder.
