Members of the UAB Department of Surgery including Fay Fletcher Kerner Endowed Chair Herbert Chen, M.D., FACS, Assistant Division Director of Gastrointestinal Surgery Daniel Chu, M.D., MSPH, FACS, FASCRS, and Division of Surgical Oncology Division Director Vikas Dudeja, M.D., FACS, presented and participated in the 2023 Asian American and Pacific Islander Faculty Association (AAPI) Leadership Course.

The course, attended by faculty across the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, featured a DISC assessment, a networking lunch, and a keynote address delivered by Susan Tsai, M.D.

Lectures and panel discussions about conflict resolution, mentorship, and team motivation sparked dialogue among attendees.

"This annual event is an opportunity for us to connect with our fellow faculty members and provide career development resources that benefit us all," says Dudeja.

The UAB Asian American and Pacific Islander Faculty Association is housed within the Office for Diversity and Inclusion of the Heersink School of Medicine. led by Drs. Daniel Chu and Shuko Harada. The association is comprised of six committees that work to provide community engagement, leadership training, and advocacy.
