UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery Professor and Assistant Program Director of Cardiothoracic Residency William Holman, M.D., was recently appointed to the Editorial Board for the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Holman received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He completed his general residency, cardiothoracic surgery residency, and fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
Joining UAB as an instructor in cardiac surgery under Dr. Albert Pacifico in 1988, Holman started the ventricular assist device program and has been the local principal investigator for multiple FDA Investigational New Device trials.
Holman has interests in adult cardiac surgery, surgery for heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and surgical education. In addition, his research interest includes cardiac arrhythmias, ischemia-reperfusion injury and outcomes analysis for patients with heart assist devices.
He has formerly participated in training five National Institutes of Health (NIH) resident researchers along with clinical cardiothoracic surgery trainees.
