The UAB Department of Surgery welcomes its new communications manager, Emme Kirby Long Stewart. Stewart previously served the City of Decatur, Alabama as the primary media liaison for the municipality in the office of Mayor Tab Bowling.

A North Alabama native, Stewart received her bachelor’s degree in communication studies at the University of Montevallo. For the past five years, she has led municipal communications as the first civilian public information liaison for the Decatur Police Department and the first communication specialist for the City of Decatur. In her prior roles, Stewart managed public outreach efforts for the Decatur COVID-19 Task Force and served as a communication liaison to the Big 10 Mayors' Association.

Stewart will join Communications Director Marissa Keppley in the Department of Surgery Communications Office, where she will support the faculty and staff of the Department of Surgery and Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine.
