threenewfacultyAugSeptThe UAB Department of Surgery has three new faculty joining in August and September: Hampton Gray, M.D. (left), Sabrina Goddard, M.D. (middle),  and Sasha Still, M.D. (right).

Gray joins the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery as an assistant professor. Gray has a special interest in improving quality and peri-operative care in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. He completed his bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Alabama. He then completed his medical degree at the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine and his internship and residency at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. After completing his internship and residency, Gray joined the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles as a congenital cardiac surgery fellow.

Goddard joins the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery as an assistant professor, following completion of the division's Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. She also serves as UAB's Assistant Trauma Medical Director. Goddard attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine for medical school and completed her general surgery residency at UT Health San Antonio. She led the UAB Trauma Service Resident Remodel and serves on multiple committees dedicated to quality improvement and education. Goddard is an instructor for Stop the Bleed, ASSET, ATLS, and TEAM and is an active member of EAST, ACS, AAS, AWS, AMA, SIS, and SCCM.

Also joining the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery Still is an assistant professor. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and completed her general surgery training at Baylor Scott and White in Dallas, Texas. She then moved to Birmingham where she completed a two-year traditional fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery, followed by a one-year advanced fellowship in aortic surgery. She is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, Women in Thoracic Surgery, and International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.
