Division of Breast and Endocrine Surgery Assistant Professor Lily Gutnik, M.D., will participate in the 2022 Multilevel Intervention Training Institute (MLTI) which begins January 20.

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, the training provides participants with a thorough grounding in conducting multilevel intervention research with a specific focus on cancer, across the cancer control continuum.

The NCI notes that the course will cover relevant theory and its use in MLI research; study approaches and methods (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods); and additional topics central to the design, successful funding, and conduct of research on multilevel healthcare delivery interventions.

The six-month program, which features experts in MLI from across the nation, will include lectures and webinars with live virtual office hours, and engagement with other trainees and faculty. Gutnik, who is an associate scientist at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB looks forward to participating in the institute.

“Acceptance into this training institute is a high distinction, and I anticipate learning a great deal during the course of the program,” said Gutinik. “I hope to apply my multilevel intervention learnings back here at UAB Surgery and across UAB Medicine, including the Caner Center.”

Gutnik aims to use this training program in preparation for federal grant funding which she plans to submit for upon completion of the course.
