General Surgery Resident Cozette Killian, M.D., was awarded the 2021 Dale Benos Scholars Award by the UAB Nephrology Research and Training Center (NRTC).

In honor of Dr. Dale Benos’ commitment to Postdoctoral training in kidney disease research, the NRTC has elected to award an outstanding trainee on the “Interdisciplinary Training in Kidney-Related Research” training grant, which supports Killian.

The Dale Benos Scholar Award allocates $2,500 for enhancement of Killian’s postdoctoral stipend and $2,500 for travel and career development expenses to assist in maintaining the quality research she has demonstrated.

“I am truly honored to receive this award,” said Killian. “I’m grateful for all the support from the TEAM Lab family and the tremendous mentorship I’ve received throughout my research training that made this possible. I look forward to continuing our research on racial disparities in living donor kidney transplantation and hope our work moves us closer to achieving equity in transplantation.”
