Each year, the department hosts a Resident Research Day, a scientific forum that gives residents from across the department the opportunity to present their own research projects and discuss their topics with an audience.
As was the case in 2020, the event this year was also virtual, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, residents were still able to share their research, via screenshare, and present to supporters all across the department who joined throughout the day.
Presentation topics ranged from health literacy to neuroendocrine tumors to surgery performance metrics. Zara Cooper, M.D., MSc, FACS, associate professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, was present to judge the event after she presented “Making the Case for Palliative Care in Surgery” at Surgery Grand Rounds that morning.
In total, residents presented 20 research projects. Below are the selected winners of the 2021 event.
