UAB Match DayAlthough Match Day 2020 did not look exactly like match day in years past due to the COVID-19 outbreak, fourth-year medical students across the country engaged online through social media, sharing where they were matched. While it was impossible to have everyone in the same room at one time, the excitement could still be felt virtually.

That means that it is time for us to say goodbye to our trainees who have matched into fellowship programs or private practice. But, it is also time to say hello to our incoming residents from medical schools across the nation.

In an ongoing series, the Department of Surgery will feature incoming and outgoing trainees for all UAB Surgery programs. This week, learn about those joining and leaving the Plastic Surgery Residency Program and the Plastic Surgery Connell Fellowship in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Hello:

This year, the UAB Plastic Surgery Residency Program welcomes Analise Thomas, M.D., as the inaugural Connell Fellow in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. She joins us after completing her residency at Duke University School of Medicine. Additionally, Michael Nolte, M.D., and Evon Zoog, M.D., start their PGY6 year with us after graduating residencies at Carle Foundation Hospital and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Erlanger Health System, respectively.

Goodbye:

Outgoing residents Katherine Chiasson, M.D., Srikanth Kurapati, M.D., and Shreyas Makwana, M.D., are now practicing plastic surgeons after graduating from the program this year. Chiasson left UAB for private practice in Baton Rouge, LA. Kurapati now serves as a fellow at Baylor in the Hand Surgery Fellowship. Finally, Makwana will join a private practice in Atlanta, GA.
