UAB Department of Surgery faculty and trainees attended the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress this past week in Boston, Massachusetts.

At the conference's ACS Convocation Ceremony on Sunday, the Division of Surgical Oncology's Rachael Lancaster, M.D., and the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy's Emily Spangler, M.D., M.S., were inducted into the ACS Fellowship program, earning them each the prestigious "F.A.C.S." designation. This designation indicates that a surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation and that the surgeon has been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the ACS..

Since its founding in 1913, the ACS has dedicated its efforts to the ethical and competent practice of surgery and has become the largest organization of surgeons in the world with over 80,000 members. The Clinical Congress is held yearly to keep surgeons and interested non-fellow physicians up to date on the current state of surgical practice.
