U.S. News & World Report’s 2017-2018 Best Hospitals report ranks UAB Cardiology and Heart Surgery No. 18 in the nation, jumping 12 spots from last year’s ranking and 19 spots from its 2015-2016 ranking, and lists Gastroenterology/GI Surgery as high-performing.
The magazine also lauds UAB for high performance in heart bypass surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery and lung cancer surgery.
With 10 specialties ranked in the nation’s top 50, UAB topped several peer institutions, including the University of North Carolina and Emory University, which had five and four ranked specialties respectively, and UAB again ranked No. 1 in the state of Alabama.
“Consumers have many choices when deciding where to turn for health care, and UAB’s continued recognition as the best hospital in Alabama and one of the leading academic medical institutions in the nation is a reflection of the quality of care delivered by our faculty and staff day after day,” said Will Ferniany, Ph.D., CEO of UAB Health System. “The consistent excellence of our patient care, our cutting-edge research and innovative therapies mark UAB as the destination of choice in Alabama, the Southeast and beyond.”
