The B.J. Harris Fellow

Whitney 0149 Copy a3b73dbe7cd0d79e9488727dbadd0fd0A chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and swelling around the joints, rheumatoid arthritis is a leading cause of disability in the U.S., affecting roughly half of all adults over 50 years old. Our division is actively pursuing research to improve the lives of people living with this painful, debilitating disease.

The family of B.J. Harris is proud to support UAB’s clinical research programs in rheumatoid arthritis. Their generosity funds the fellowship training of a promising rheumatologist in memory of Mr. Harris.

Raeann Whitney Bowman, M.D., is the inaugural B.J. Harris Fellow. Building on her undergraduate degree in microbiology, Dr. Bowman has been actively involved in the design and execution of research projects throughout medical school, residency, and her current fellowship. Her findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Arthritis & Rheumatology, an official journal of the American College of Rheumatology.
