Andrew Watson, M.D., (he/him/his), assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, has been selected to join the Pediatric Residency Program as co-director of Pediatric Residency Program Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

He will be working alongside Chrystal Rutledge, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care, to advance DEI initiatives within the Pediatric Residency Program and as faculty co-mentor of the resident section of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Advocacy (IDEAA) Council.

Dr. Watson completed his medical school and residency training here at UAB, followed by a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine at Northwestern University/Lurie Children’s Hospital. He is excited to have returned home to Birmingham and is looking forward to this opportunity to promote and celebrate a culture of inclusion among trainees at UAB Pediatrics and within the greater community.
