Alexandria Broadnax, M.D., fellow in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, was selected for the 2023 American Society of Hematology (ASH) Minority Hematology Fellow Award (MHFA) .
The goal of the ASH award is to encourage early-career researchers from historically underrepresented minority groups in the United States and Canada to pursue a career in academic hematology, and provides salary support as well as funds to support hematology-focused research projects. Dr. Broadnax will receive over $70k in salary support.
According to Dr. Broadnax, “I am developing a food insecurity sickle cell mice model in hopes of determining the impact of food insecurity on the development of kidney disease. I am also studying the progression of kidney disease in patients with sickle cell disease as it relates to social determinants of health and food insecurity.”
