Yung Lau, M.D., professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology and Erin Shaughnessy, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, have been named vice chairs for Clinical Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics. They began their new roles June 1, 2021.

Drs. Lau and Shaughnessy are taking over for Pete Glaeser, M.D., upon his retirement at the end of May 2021. 

Dr. Lau is the director of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, and will bring his expertise, vision and know-how, which has significantly benefitted the Heart Program, to the larger department as vice chair for Clinical Affairs. Dr. Shaughnessy is the director of the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, who has a wealth of collaborative leadership experience from her service with other institutions as well as here, will also become vice chair of Clinical Affairs.

We look forward to Drs. Lau and Shaughnessy leading us to closer collaboration with Children’s of Alabama in improving clinic access and efficiency, to further developing new services, e.g, STEP clinic and Complex Care, and to evaluating and refreshing some of our department clinical operations and compensation plans.
