fellow research awards from the Society of Pediatric Research (SPR) as part of the Pediatric Academic Society (PAS) meeting. These awards are given by the Society for Pediatric Research to honor fellows who are engaged in clinical and basic research and to encourage trainees to pursue careers in academic pediatrics.
Snehashis Hazra, M.D., Third Year Fellow, and Vivek Shukla, M.D., Second Year Fellow, Neonatology, receivedDr. Hazra received the SPR David G. Nathan Award in Basic Research for his research "Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) Mitochondrial Dysfunction Predicts Risk for Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) in Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW) Infants."
The SPR David G. Nathan Award in Basic Research was established in 2000 by the colleagues, trainees, and friends of Dr. Nathan to honor his achievements in every aspect of academic pediatrics and is given to one fellow per year.
Dr. Shukla received the SPR Clinical Research Awards for Fellows, sponsored by the Junior SPR Members’ Section for his research "Predictive Ability of Apgar Scores for 18 to 22 Month Outcomes after Therapeutic Hypothermia. The SPR Clinical Research Awards for Fellows, sponsored by the Junior SPR Members’ Section was established in 2013. The award is given to two fellows per year and the winning candidate is chosen from the SPR Fellow’s Clinical Research Award applicants.
