L to R: Shaundra Blakemore and Brian SimsShaundra Blakemore, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Brian Sims, M.D., Ph.D., professor in the Division of Neonatology, will serve as co-directors of the new UAB Pediatrics Mini-Medical School. Support for this program has come from the Wally Carlo family.

The Mini-Medical School will engage middle school students (and/or early high school students) in Alabama to a longitudinal series of virtual and in-person experiences that will increase their awareness of STEM careers, both in general and in medicine, and increase the pipeline for those who have traditionally been under-represented in medicine (URiM). 

The Mini-Medical School Program will collaborate and report to Tamera Coyne-Beasley, M.D., MPH, vice chair for Community Engagement for the Department of Pediatrics.
