Chrystal Rutledge, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care, was named one of two recipients of the inaugural Professional Excellence Award. This award was created by the UAB School of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) to honor underrepresented in medicine (URiM) faculty who have demonstrated excellence in their careers.
Dr. Rutledge was selected for this honor for her many contributions to the Department of Pediatrics and the School of Medicine to create a more diverse work environment and to eliminate health disparities. These contributions include serving as co-director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Pediatric Residency Program and as the associate medical director of the Pediatric Simulation Center.
We are thankful to Dr. Rutledge for her continued commitment to improving diversity, equity and inclusion in the department and proud that all of her hard work has been recognized through this award.
