Congratulations to Andrew Donahue, M.D., fellow in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine on his acceptance into the Pandemic Network Pediatric (PPN) Disaster Science Research Training Program (R25)!
Dr. Donahue completed his undergraduate education at the University of Memphis, earned his medical degree from East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine, and completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Currently, he serves as a senior fellow of pediatric emergency medicine at UAB, where his focus lies in advancing pediatric disaster preparedness and response.
Dr. Donahue is also a contracted disaster instructor for the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Domestic Preparedness, where he teaches critical skills in decontamination, mass casualty management, and incident command. His leadership extends through collaborations with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the ASPR-funded Gulf-7 Pediatric Disaster Center of Excellence, and Alabama EMS-C, working to enhance pediatric disaster readiness across multiple sectors.
He has authored a pediatric disaster curriculum for pediatricians and is developing a comprehensive disaster curriculum tailored for Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellows. With a passion for advancing the field, Dr. Donahue is dedicated to integrating evidence-based strategies into disaster response systems to ensure children are better protected during crises.
