On Thursday, Nov. 19, Children’s of Alabama hosted the annual Great American Smokeout event. With tables set up in both the McWane and Russell lobbies, volunteers greeted visitors and promoted tobacco cessation resources, including Quit Kits available through PedsRX pharmacy. Members of the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine showed their support by wearing t-shirts promoting UAB and Children's of Alabama as smoke-free campuses and assisting with passing out tobacco cessation resources.

The event was physically distanced and provided free Children's of Alabama and UAB co-branded masks and mini hand sanitizers to those who stopped by to learn more. The Quit Kits include two nicotine patches, nine pieces of nicotine gum, and information about the 1-800-QUITNOW line and are available to patient families and patients 18 years and older.
