Happy Diwali!
To those celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights starting Saturday, Nov. 14 and lasting five days, on behalf of the Department of Pediatrics, I wish you a joyous holiday.
Diwali is celebrated by Hindu, Sikh, and Jain traditions as well as some Buddists. Some women and girls decorate their hands with henna. Many homes celebrate Diwali with assorted sweets, spices and herbs. Across India, the festival signifies different things, dependent on region. However, in each region, Diwali signifies "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance." This is particularly welcome in 2020 wherever you are on the globe.
