The UAB Department of Pediatrics and Children’s of Alabama participated in Birmingham’s inaugural Black Family Wellness Expo, as part of a National Impact Day of Service of the Links Incorporated.
The inaugural event was sponsored nationwide by the Links Incorporated with local chapters taking the lead in their respective cities. Tamera Coyne-Beasley, M.D., MPH, professor in the Division of Adolescent Medicine, is a member of the Link Incorporated and one of the organizers of the event in Birmingham, held on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
The Adolescent Health Center, the Pediatrics Primary Care Clinic and Family Clinic participated in the event, which was free to the community and held at Railroad Park.
The clinics provided preventive and other health information relative to their clinics. Books were also given to participants. Dr. Coyne-Beasley and Jaime McKinney, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Academic General Pediatrics, lead the efforts from the Adolescent Health Clinic and Primary Care clinic respectively. Willinadia Murrell and Amy Ball represented Family Clinic.
