The UAB Department of Orthopaedic Pediatrics Section conducts comprehensive pediatrics research, ranging from sports medicine to trauma. The section aims to discover new treatments for diseases like scoliosis and other spinal problems, pediatric fractures, deformities, and neuromuscular conditions.
The section is housed at Children's of Alabama, the state's only free-standing children's hospital, boasting 380 inpatient beds and 18 state-of-the-art operating rooms. Our surgeon scientists understand pediatric orthopaedics from a clinical care setting and are able to apply that to the lab. Research is also conducted for diseases including spina bifida, cerebral palsy, limb deficiency, spasticity, brachial plexus, and metabolic bone diseases.
The physicians of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Section are passionate about conducting research that will better the lives of their patients as well as patients across the nation.
