Mona Fouad, M.D., MPH, received the award for extraordinary service to the community in support of the Society’s mission to save lives and end the pain and suffering of cancer.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine will hold its White Coat Ceremony for first-year medical students at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14. Each of the 186 new members of the Class of 2020 will be presented with the traditional white coat in the presence of family, friends, faculty and staff. 
The third annual Heart + Sole 5K and Kids’ Run will be on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Crestline Elementary. Funds raised will benefit Equal Access Birmingham, the School of Medicine student-run free clinic, which provides education and health care to Birmingham’s uninsured and underserved.
Lisa Meeks, Ph.D., director of Medical Student Disability Services at the UCSF School of Medicine, will discuss the prevalence of students with disabilities, balancing patient safety and reasonable accommodations.
Caroline Harada, M.D., was one of nine faculty across UAB named to the 2016 class of Faculty Fellows in Engaged Scholarship.
Eleven School of Medicine faculty projects were recently funded through an AMC21 initiative giving NIH-funded investigators incentive to submit a second R01.  
Mona Fouad, M.D., MPH, receives the award in recognition of her work in improving the health of racial/ethnic minorities and underserved communities through the creation of UAB HealthSmart.
