The one-year, ACPNF-accredited Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s of Alabama offers comprehensive subspecialty training in pediatric neurosurgery.

The program provides fellows exposure to a diverse range of advanced surgical techniques and innovative treatments in pediatric neurosurgery. Upon completing the program, fellows are qualified to sit for the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery exam.

Pediatric Neurosurgery

The Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at UAB/Children’s of Alabama encompasses the full range of operative and non-operative services for children with structural abnormalities of the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system.

UAB and Children’s of Alabama provide fellows with access to cutting-edge technology, advanced clinical resources, and a high-volume patient population, ensuring a robust training experience in pediatric neurosurgery.

Fellowship Structure

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in the full pediatric neurosurgery service
  • Participate in the perioperative decision-making process
  • See patients in a clinical and inpatient setting
  • Manage a clinical service
  • Participate in pediatric neurosurgery conferences
  • Mentor neurosurgery residents in and out of the operating room
  • Participate in clinical research with significant potential for academic productivity (typical range four to 24 peer-reviewed publications)

In addition to their clinical duties, fellows will have the opportunity to participate in research projects in pediatric neurosurgery, allowing them to contribute to ongoing advancements in the field.
