The UAB Department of Neurology was recently approved by the Association of Postdoctoral Programs for Clinical Neuropsychology (APPCN) as a match site for a neuropsychology fellow. The approval marks the restarting of the neuropsychology fellowship in the department.
“Fellowship marks a transition from clinical training breadth to establishing the depth of expertise needed for independent clinical practice as a neuropsychologist,” said Amy Knight, Ph.D., ABPP-CN, neuropsychology fellowship director.
This two-year postdoctoral fellowship program in clinical neuropsychology will train advanced skills in neuropsychological evaluation and understanding of brain-behavior relationships. During their training at UAB, participants will be exposed to all spectrums of neurological disease and guided through appropriate evaluation of these patients by six full-time clinical neuropsychologists and a provider referral network of more than 90 attending neurologists who will provide support via both clinical and research activities.
The ultimate goal is to hone trainees’ clinical skills so that they can qualify for certification in clinical neuropsychology by the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN/ABPP).
“We are pleased to have received this approval of our program from the AAPCN,” said David Standaert, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Neurology.
UAB offers an outstanding environment for training in neuropsychology with access to a broad range of nationally-recognized programs in neurology.”
The department is currently recruiting for this position for the 2025-27 training period and will admit one neuropsychology fellow every two years. Find more detailed information on the fellowship and application procedures.
