Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (DBIDS) James Cimino, M.D. was named Treasurer of the AMIA Board of Directors during the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 2023 Annual Symposium in New Orleans.
The AMIA Symposium was held from November 11 through 15, and this year's theme was "Transforming Healthcare and Biomedicine for a Sustainable Future." Known as one of the most prominent informatics meetings worldwide, attendees were provided the opportunity to network with various industry leaders and colleagues, while being provided career development pathways.
The symposium aimed to address the significant challenges faced by biomedicine and healthcare, including knowledge translation, staffing, and the supply chain. Other UAB faculty who were able to make presentations at the AMIA 2023 Annual Symposium included:
