  • GEARs, “Gathering to Enrich and Advance Research” is a monthly community-focused presentation series created to foster connection, collaboration, and scientific exchange across the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE), BDB8, and the broader research community. Launched on March 15, 2023, GEARs grew from a recognized need to strengthen community among investigators, trainees, staff, and students while creating a welcoming space to share ideas and learn from one another.

Designed as a dynamic and inclusive forum, GEARs provides researchers at all career stages, from students and trainees to junior and senior investigators, with an opportunity to present work in any phase of development. Presentations may feature new or evolving projects, preliminary findings, research challenges, methodological questions, planned proposals, or updates on ongoing work. The goal is not only to showcase scientific progress, but also to encourage discussion, gather feedback, practice presentation skills, and build meaningful connections across the community.

GEARs emphasizes a low-stress, open-minded, and supportive environment where participants can openly discuss ideas, seek input on research challenges, and engage in thoughtful scientific dialogue. By centering the values of collaboration, mentorship, and community, GEARs helps cultivate an engaging, safe, and productive space for advancing research and supporting the success of COERE and BDB8 members and their teams.

Whether sharing exciting preliminary results, troubleshooting a data conundrum, or simply introducing a new line of research, GEARs welcomes participation from all who are interested in strengthening our scientific community through conversation, curiosity, and collaboration.is a monthly dynamic session to discuss and present new, evolving, or upcoming/planned projects or proposals within and adjacent to the COERE.
