Robert Howard

Robert Howard serves as Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he leads enterprise technology strategy for a large public research university and academic medical center. With 27 years of experience in higher education and academic healthcare, he is responsible for aligning technology investments, platforms, and operating models with institutional mission, risk, and long-term sustainability.

His leadership focuses on enabling education, research, and patient care while making disciplined decisions that strengthen reliability, security, and fiscal stewardship. He approaches technology leadership with a simple conviction: systems exist to serve people, and trust, judgment, and accountability determine whether they do.

Robert holds a Doctor of Science in Healthcare Leadership from UAB, an MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Administration, an MS in Leadership and Organizational Change, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
